    Great food · Farm-to-table

For me, the best dining experience is familiar ingredients delivered with a twist coupled with ambience and good service. Saltire delivers. The Friday night degustation menu was our first visit, but we will be back. As my co-diner said “Anyone who can create something this delicious just from summer veggies, has talent to spare”.

    Superb Friday Night Dinner!

We enjoyed an absolutely wonderful Friday evening with Lynne and her team at Saltire. The set menu with matching wines was well considered and all of the dishes were beautifully balanced and equally delicious.

    My 3 stand-out dishes were

    • - the tempura oysters/pickled beans/mirin/wasabi leaves;
    • - seared venison/blackberries/parsnip/cocoa; and
    • - buttermilk panna cotta/rhubarb/hazelnuts. So good!!!

I would definitely recommend this experience to others and I will be returning in the near future for more of Lynne's great hospitality and delicious food.

(Being 15 minutes from Launceston I suggest the use of a taxi as the matching wines are too good to miss).

    First timers

Called in after checking out a new bakery in town which wasn't very inviting so decided on Saltire. Had a tassie platter which was lovely had a terrine, salmon, deli meats all local rye pickled vegetables and pear chutney excellent value. Good coffee and service plenty of seating outside in the garden.

Great stop on the way North (or South!)

We stopped here on our way to Barnbougle, to have some lunch. Staff were friendly, menu was great, food was excellent. Can't fault it - in fact, we stopped for breakfast on our way home!

    The best degustation
We did the Friday night degustation with matched wines and it was honestly the best meal we have had in a long time, and we eat out a lot. Wines matched perfectly and the staff are perfectly attentive, without being intrusive.

    Could not fault a thing.

    We will be back.

    Beautiful cafe and nice food

Staying in a village nearby and stopped at Saltire for a quick bite whilst exploring the area. They have woodfired pizza for lunch and an inviting outside eating area. Unfortunately it was a bit too windy and cold on the day so inside it was. The cafe is in a restored church and the owners have done a wonderful job on the restoration. The menu was good, the coffee was good, and the staff friendly and helpful. A great place to stop. Would love to try dinner on Friday evening the next time we're in the area. Thanks for a great experience.

    Pleasantly surprised

An unexpected find! After camping in the bush in Cradle Mountain, cold, wet and weary, our drive to Hobart led us passed this jewel in the rough.

A very unique cafe, church conversion, wonderful decor and a beautiful garden. Located in a small town opposite an IGA, this resembles more of an up market restaurant in Hobart than a cafe in a small town.

    Well worth a visit!

    Just perfect

Although we only stopped for coffee I’m glad we did. The coffee was very good and the surroundings delightful - we sat outside but inside was charming. When we return to Tassie we’ll definitely have the Friday night degustation. Friendly staff and welcoming owner. Lizzie

    Lunch in the garden.

Beautifully renovated Church with a lovely garden, perfect for a long summer lunch grazing with friends. We shared charcuterie boards, pizzas, delightful Tasmanian wine, coffee and cake. Wonderful day!

Great coffee, great food, lovely atmosphere and friendly genuine staff.

Fabulous spot for a meal whether on the way to, or the way back from or just for a lovely short outing from Launceston. The refurbishment of what was the increasingly uninspiring Utsi is a huge success. Lovely warm intimate surrounds and a great interesting menu. Only in its second week so there are still a few creases to be ironed out, but the foundations of a fabulous destination are in place. The chef Damian is a local food identity and with the warmth and enthusiasm of the new owners there is no doubt Saltire will be a huge success.

Fabulous new cafe in a beautiful space

Great atmosphere, wonderful cake and coffee. The pistachio and rose water cake was amazing. Looking forward to my next visit and trying lunch as the menu looks mouth watering. Service was fantastic.

    Great coffee

I stopped here on the way to Hobart and was very pleasantly surprised. The old church has a great atmosphere and the surrounding garden gives it a very relaxed feel.

    Amazing!

This little joint is a a must do if you’re traveling through Perth. From the moment you walk in to the place you feel right at home. The staff were so friendly and the chef even had time to come out and greet us personally. The food, well what can I say, it was superb. Every little detail was spot on and so so tasty. We will definitely be back.

What a delight to visit the new incarnation of this place. My great great grandfather built this church and it was so nice to visit it on a miserable wet day and see it fresh, warm and inviting, The food was outstanding, hospitality at its best and I will be back...often :)

I have been to saltire three times now, with and without my two children. It’s always daunting going to a “fancier” cafe with little ones but the staff were so accommodating. The coffee and food is to die for and it has fast become our new local! Such a beautiful little cafe!

Delicious 6 course dinner warm and inviting

We had the pleasure of securing a booking for the very first dinner offered by Saltire this week. On walking through the door we were warmly greeted and offered a drink immediately! That’s the first ✔️ for us and our friends, we are PERTH locals and we had eagerly awaited the reopening of this cafe, so the 6 Course dinner seemed like the perfect way to ‘taste the difference’. We were a party of 4 seated at a table for 4 in an intimate warm setting. Although the cafe is not large we didn’t feel cramped or invaded by other diners’ conversations. It was private and warm and the service was subtlety delivered. It was hands down a 10/10 on the food, service and attention to detail. This is a must STOP destination in the quirky village of Perth. PS coffee was beautiful. ✔️✔️✔️

Must stop on the Midland Hway

Called in as I needed to fill in some time and attend to emails, staff were very friendly and agreeable, coffee and slice great. Only realised when i returned to Melbourne that i had left my "special" pen at Saltire, made a phone call and manager posted the pen. Wonderful outcome, and thanks for the great coffee in a very warm environment.

New meeting place for foodie heaven

First time to this beautiful cafe and wasn’t disappointed!!!

Beautiful deco and garden, food delicious, atmosphere friendly and welcoming.

Lunchtime menu is not your usual fare, beautifully presented, could have licked the plate. Desserts are just as tasty. Licensed so you can enjoy a wine. Evening meals once a week but need to book as this will be a very popular place. Pizza oven in the garden looks as though their will be some additions to the menu. Highly recommend you stop and enjoy!

    Friday night degustation

Degustation of 6 courses, absolutely amazing, matching wines are perfect, worth a drive out of the city.

Delicious six course dinner with stunning Tasmania wines

We had the most delicious meal matched with a generous glass' of Tasmanian wines. Lynn obviously enjoys good food and wine and this shines through in the whole planning and pairing of the menu. It was a treat!
